X-faces KYC updates – flexible width

X-faces KYC Product Updates and Security Improvements

X-faces entered the new year with a series of meaningful updates designed to make the verification process even more secure, intelligent, and user-friendly — both for partners and end users. Below, we highlight three key innovations implemented at the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026.

A New Frontend Liveness Engine: Intelligent Real-Time Protection

The most significant January update was the rollout of a new Liveness Engine. Far from a minor enhancement, it marks a meaningful step forward in fraud prevention.

What’s new?

  • User attention control — The engine now analyses gaze direction and head position in real time. The system verifies that documents are being submitted by a live person who is actively looking at the camera, rather than someone distracted or unintentionally captured in the frame. This reduces the risk of accepting data from inattentive users or covert recording attempts.
  • Enhanced protection against face-spoofing attacks — X-faces has long been able to block verification attempts using photos or videos displayed on a smartphone screen. The updated algorithm goes further. The frontend can now independently detect when an image on another device — rather than a real person — is presented to the camera, significantly increasing the reliability of liveness checks.
  • Cost efficiency — All improvements apply to both selfie verification and full liveness challenges. Attempts that fail at the frontend due to incorrect data submission are not billed. You only pay for successful, high-quality KYC (Know Your Customer) attempts.

Full EU Document Support and Simplified Bulk Selection

The second major update, launched just before the New Year, introduced full support for ID cards, passports, and driving licences from all European Union member states.

Why this matters

  • Global scalability — This allows international businesses, especially those operating across Europe, to accept key identity documents from all 27 EU member states through a single, unified configuration.
  • Improved usability for project managers — Beyond technical coverage, the document management interface has been fully redesigned. Accepting ID cards from all EU countries now requires just a single checkbox — the system automatically selects the relevant documents. This saves time, reduces the risk of human error, and makes configuration genuinely user-friendly.

This is only the beginning. Over the next quarter, we plan to expand document coverage to include most countries worldwide. Our roadmap covers Southeast Asia, Africa, North America, the CIS region, and selected additional areas.

Automatic Desktop Upload Blocking and Seamless Mobile Transition

In autumn 2025, X-faces significantly improved deepfake attack detection. Following partner requests — particularly those facing an increase in such fraud attempts — we took the next step and implemented a feature that fully blocks document and photo uploads from desktop devices.

Desktop uploads carry a higher risk, as file authenticity is difficult to guarantee and images can be easily manipulated.

Our solution

  • Automatic QR code for mobile transition — The camera interface now automatically displays a QR code, without requiring users to manually generate it. By scanning the code, users instantly open their X-faces session on their smartphone. This works independently of whether a mobile website or app is available, ensuring a smooth and secure transition to a mobile device.
  • Live photo capture as an optional setting — A Live Capture Only option can be enabled to further strengthen security. When activated, documents can only be captured in real time using the device camera, with no ability to upload images from the gallery.

We recognise that business priorities vary. While some prioritise maximum verification security, others focus on minimising user friction. Desktop blocking and live capture are therefore flexible settings.

Built to Fit Your KYC Strategy

The field of cybersecurity and digital identity never stands still — it evolves rapidly in response to new threats and technological opportunities. For companies operating in the KYC space, maintaining the right balance between strong fraud protection and a seamless user experience remains a core challenge.

X-faces’ recent updates are a practical response to that challenge. We strengthen fraud detection where it matters most, expand global document coverage, and give businesses flexible control over how their verification flows are configured.
